Already at pm. 5:30 Wednesday morning we headed for Chott el Jerid. Yes they call it morning, but it is still night-time for us!!! It was really too early, so we valued our pillows so we could get our little naps between stops. We have become quite good at falling asleep and get a half-hour of sleep here and there.

The early departure from the hotel meant that we got to Salt Lake just in time for the sunrise. It was so beautiful and we were certainly no longer sad that we had to get up so early.

The sea divides Tunisia into two, as it is 7500 km2 from east to west and it is the biggest and most important salt lake in Tunisia.

It's very different how much water is in the lake during the different seasons. Here in late February and early March is the rainy season and there are days, not for such a long period - max. 5 days, with heavy rain. In contrast, the lake is almost completely dried out in the summer as they in this part of Tunisia have about 45 degrees in August.

Because of all the minerals in the water, copper, iron, etc., the water change colour, it is both blue, purple, green, gray and red, which is quite amazing.

The nature is so beautiful here in Tunisia and this morning we again saw something new that was not as anything we are used to see here.

It was a beautiful place to make our first stop and a great start to the day.

Chott el Jerid - Salt lake

Jeep - Sahara

After the Salt Lake, we drove a little further into the desert where the jeeps waited. We had to drive 6 people in the same car so the four of us went with a nice couple from England.

The Jeep tour started out really steeply against a mountain where we had to walk the remaining distance to reach the top, up to the most beautiful view. Here we were allowed to take a lot of pictures before we had continue the jeep ride into the Sahara. The mountain is definitely the most beautiful place we have seen throughout the trip, with the most incredible and unusual nature.

Everybody had so much fun during the jeep ride in Saharaen. Not because there was anything special to see - sand, sand and sand - but our driver drove so fast during the whole trip and we therefore flew back and forward in the car. We all agreed that it was better than an amusementpark and all the time we hoped for bumps. In the center of the Sahara we drove up a sand hill and then we ran steeply down at high speed. The car was almost vertical and we were all quite excited to try it again!

The jeep tour was included in the 39 DT we paid extra for camel ride yesterday and the money was really well spent. We are many fun experiences richer.
